Home Elevations and Foundations

A stilt house elevated above the ground near a water body surrounded by greenery.

Home elevations can take place for numerus reasons.

More crawlspace under a home for more ventilation.

Flood elevations due to flood prone homes

Maybe the owner just wants the house higher for aesthetics

Whatever the reason maybe we're here to help.

Foundation Types:

Foundation types can vary, and are dependent on multiple factors including but not limited to:

* Municipality requirements

* State requirements

* Parish requirements

* Type of soil under foundation

* Customer needs

* Engineer recommendations

With all these factors at play, choosing a foundation can be difficult. At Oney House Moving, we strive to make this process as easy as possi

Post and Stringer:

Post and stringer consist of wooden post placed into a pre-dug hole with a concrete base in the bottom. Once the posts are set and plumbed, concrete is then poured around them to set them in place.

Stringers attached to the bottom of the structure to anchor posts into place once the structure is lowered.

Bracing is added at the end to prevent "swaying" of the structure in the wi

Steel beam/Free span

Foundation consisting of steel beams as the main support.

Great for customers who want usable space under a structure to park cars and boats as well as store belongings.

By using steel beam, pier spacings can greatly increase without the worry of floors dipping.

Steel beam can be left long for cantilevered porches as well.

Footings with Mortared Piers

Foundation consisting of a drilled footing, poured full of concrete.

Blocks are then mortared to the footing and each other to the desired height.

Once all piers have been mortared, they are filled with concrete as well and anchors installed.

The house is lowered to the piers and attached using the anchors for a stable foundation.

Lifting Process

Elevation starts by inspecting the home first. Once a ballpark has been provided, and customer accepts, a representative from our company will make a site visit to inspect the project. Once the inspection is done, a thorough assessment of cost, foundation recommendations, and lift plans in place, the work begins.

As pictured, crews start by inserting steel lifting beams, digging jacks in and estab

Next a "unified jacking machine" (as pictured) is attached to the jacks.

This machine is capable of running multiple jacks at the same time. Each jack is hooked to its own port and retains its own pressure. The job of the unified machine is to keep the jacks lifting at the same rate regardless of pressure differences, keeping your structure straight and level the entire lift.

As the structure is elevated, crew members use timbers (referred to as cribbing) to build crib towers anywhere from 4' off the ground to 30'. These crib towers are the temporary foundation that keeps a structure elevated while a permanent foundation is constructed, keeping your structure and our workers safe at all times.

This same process is repeated on the descent as well.

Home elevation with OHM

Due to the changing landscape and poor drainage in cities all over the U.S, more homes will flood in the coming future. Your home doesn't have to be one of them. If you're unsure if your home needs to be elevated, contact your local municipality and ask them for flood plain maps. You can also go online to obtain these. They will tell you if your home is prone to flooding and the base elevation needed to keep your home and family high and dry.

While we are not the only home elevation company in the region, we strongly advise customers to do their due diligence before hiring a flood elevation contractor. Make sure they have the proper equipment, experience and insurances to keep you covered throughout the elevation process.

At Oney House Moving we have liability insurance with several coverage options, as well as cargo insurance and workers compensation to protect the customer as well as the structure we are working on throughout the duration of the project. Our crews are also certified for the equipment we use and have two OSHA 30 certified employees.
